Local Schools Compete for Golden Trophy

Ian Walford18 May 2023 - 20:00

Bishops Frome hosts 48th edition this Saturday

This weekend sees Bromyard FC hosting the 48th edition of the Golden Trophy tournament at their Bishops Frome ground. Each year, teams of boys and girls from years 5 and 6 of local schools compete for the Trophy while teams from years 3 and 4 play friendly matches. The competition was first held in 1972 and was won by Brockhampton - who also won the most recent edition last year. Brockhampton hold the record for number of wins, along with Burley Gate, at nine. St Peters have been victorious seven times, Cradley and Tenbury five teams each - the latter being last years Plate winners

This year, teams from Borckhampton, St Peters and Ashperton schools will compete, along with a special guest team from Tenbury United FC.

The competition kicks off at 9:30 on Saturday at Mudwalls Close, Bishops Frome, WR6 5DB.

This year's competition is very generously sponsored by Woodstar Software, providers of software for Farms and Packhouses.

Thanks also go to Tim and John of Bromyard FC for their organising, Martin and Tim for preparing the pitches, those that have given up their time free of charge to referee, Bishops Frome Council for their continued support and provision of facilities, the Panniers for the loan of their field for car parking and Kevin Aitchison and Phil Craddock for the provision of refreshments.
